Student Council
Student Council is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Six students from each grade are chosen to represent their class as well as a primary classroom. Student Council organizes candy grams, a bake sale, the talent show, plastic bag collection, and school-ground clean-up. Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Leist sponsor Student Council.
MESA
MESA stands for Math Engineering Science Achievement.
Gymnastics
Gymnastic Club is run by Mrs. Donna Miller. Gymnastics is offered after school for four weeks. Children get to participate in an "educational gymnastics" program for an hour of enrichment to the gymnastics curriculum that they are experiencing in the gym during the school day.
P.E. Clubs & Activities
"Stick To It Club" -- This is a fitness club for power-walking, jogging and running. It encourages kids to keep fit, reduce playground hassles, teaches healthy lifestyle habits, teaches goal-setting, and builds a sense of accomplishment. For every five miles that the children accumulate either at
school or home, a "shoe token" is awarded.
Cottonwood Classic -- This is a 5K run that occurs in May in our community. The 10 children with the most "shoe tokens" are invited to go to the race with Mrs. Miller and other Hillcrest staff members.
Lions Club Relays -- Students compete against each other to see who qualifies to attend this event. About 125 first through fifth grade students are selected to participate in this event, where they compete against students from other elementary schools. The relays are held in May at the Adams 12 Stadium.
Norma Jean Jump Rope Club -- This club is a jump roping adventure to increase endurance and cardio-vascular fitness. Each grade level has age-appropriate goals that we work towards throughout the year. We track and record progress.
Fire Cat Club -- This is a climbing club that increases upper arm strength and overall fitness. Each grade level has age appropriate goals. This includes climbing poles and ropes, as well as supporting body weight. We track and record progress.
Caring, Respectful, Responsible Kids Club -- When kids get caught doing something wonderful they will be asked to become a member of this club. Their picture is taken and added to the wall of fame in the gym. You are also invited to attend a party at the end of the school year with Mrs. Miller.
